Important
note to Louisiana residents interested in
working with me as
a location scout in the film industry:
I
pride myself on being a competent person who gets
the job done. On occasion I have the need
to bring additional scouts and an assistant
location manager onto some projects and as the
location manager, the production looks to me to
hire the right person for the job. I do
keep a list of people that I've brought onto
productions before both as location scouts and
assistant location managers and I also keep a
list of people who want to get into this field.
If you're interested in this line of work and
believe you meet the criteria below, contact me
and I'll keep your name and information on file
for future productions. I have no problem
with on the job training as long as you take
instruction well and are a self-motivated person.
I'm serious about my job and I'd expect you to
be, too.
Important criteria you must meet to work with me
on a production:
 |
An absolute must for this job is that you
have good people skills. You will be
dealing with people face-to-face and on the
phone on a daily basis, not only on the
production, but on various locations
throughout the day, every day you work. |
 |
This is not a job for a shy person.
You will be "cold calling" people or going
to knock on their doors when you're interested
in their locations. |
 |
You must be a completely honest person
because that's what I expect, that's what
the producers expect and that's what the
owners of the locations deserve. No
one will be happy if you tell a business
we'll film when they're closed and we need
to show up at noon on their busiest day.
If you're on the job and having a difficult
time finding the location we desire,
I need to know that, sooner rather than
later, so we can work on it together
and get appropriate locations locked on
schedule. |
 |
Self motivation is important.
Often this job has a great sense of urgency
to it and you need to be a person who
responds well to that pressure and will get
the job done. Getting frustrated and
giving up is not an option. |
 |
To work in this industry you must have a
working cell phone and day time minutes you don't
mind using. You will be making a lot
of calls and you'll need to be in close
contact with me. You will be paid by
the production, usually a
day rate, and your cell phone
usage will be your expense. |
 |
You must have a valid driver's license, a
reliable vehicle at your disposal and
current insurance.
Location scouts can be on the road
throughout the daylight hours and some
evenings, including weekends, and an assistant location
manager needs to have the vehicle available
24 hours a day, 7 days a week because you
may be on the job at any time. Most
productions will reimburse you for your fuel
upon surrender of your gas receipts. |
 |
Photography is a requirement of this job.
An absolute necessity of this
occupation is a
working digital still camera with additional
memory and the proper upload cables.
If it's yours or if it's borrowed is not as
important as being familiar with
how it operates. |
 |
Being adaptable is a must! Many times
what we're looking for will change over
night. You might work hard getting
certain types of locations signed and then
the production discards that type of
location in favor of another type they now
have in mind. It's wise to move
forward and not get upset. It's the
nature of this line of work. If
that is something that would seriously
irritate you, this is not the job for you. |
 |
A legible handwriting, good record keeping and attention to
detail are very important. You will have some paperwork
to do and for me to be able to do my job thoroughly I need to
be able to read everything you write. |
 |
Having a
good work ethic is vital! This is a
fun and exciting job for people who don't
mind working at a hectic pace. It's a
respected role in the film industry and your
name will usually appear in the credits. |

sounds like a good fit for your personality and skill
set, please
